Learn about solvent uses and the benefits of solvents.

Solvents provide the beneficial properties necessary to make adhesives work properly. From soles on shoes to tires on cars, solvents are used in everyday household and industrial adhesives, as well as in high performance situations such as in metal-to-metal bonding.

Drying time is a critical attribute for most adhesives, as is staying power. An adhesive that dries too quickly, before pieces can be fitted properly, is a problem, as is an adhesive that takes too long to dry. Adhesives typically are made with solvent blends that allow optimal performance for each application, from home use to high-speed manufacturing.
